PETALING JAYA, Oct 15 — PKR today announced plans to hold a rally calling for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s release on November 16 when the Federal Court hears his application to admit new testimony for his bid to review his sodomy conviction.

"The #AnwarBebas rally will be held at November 16, 2015, 9am at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya. On this date, Anwar's lawyer will present two reasons for the application," PKR Youth deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin said at the party headquarters here.

"It will question the integrity and freedom of the judicial system from the influences of the Prime Minister's Office... and the accusations from a series of talks done by public prosecutor Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah."

The Federal Court convicted Anwar on February 10 for sodomy and sentenced the former Permatang Pauh MP to five years’ jail.

Dr Afif further said the party will also hold a series of talks to build up hype on the rally and the court case ahead of the November hearing.

The next one will be held tomorrow at 8.30pm, in the party’s Kajang constituency centre.

Anwar, 68, had on June 10 filed an application seeking for Ramli’s oral testimony to be accepted by the Federal Court and subsequently, used as evidence at the hearing of his review application.

In his notice of motion, the former opposition leader said Ramli gave a sworn testimony at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in a civil suit on on May 27 that supported Anwar’s defence that he was a victim of political conspiracy and fabricated evidence.

Anwar said the evidence provided by Ramli was important to establish that there existed a political conspiracy against him which led to his being charged with sodomy.
