KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has lauded the Federal Court’s ruling yesterday that a controversial Negri Sembilan Islamic law banning cross-dressing is constitutional.
In a brief statement, the Negri Sembilan mentri besar praised God for the decision and hoped that the glory of Islam will continue to “shine” over Malaysia and the state.
“Praise be to God … Now Section 66 will return to the status quo and is applicable on all Muslims in Negri Sembilan,” Mohamad said on his official Facebook page.
“May the glory of Islam continues to shine over the country and state, God willing.”
Yesterday, the Federal Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s landmark decision declaring an anti-crossdressing Shariah law unconstitutional and void, setting back the transgender community’s struggle for its civil rights.
The five-man bench led by Justice Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif set aside the judgments made by the High Court and Court of Appeal, citing improper procedures used to commence the lawsuit that they said rendered the lower courts’ rulings invalid.
