12 areas record unhealthy air quality as at 9 am

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Twelve areas recorded unhealthy air quality as at 9 am today, compared to four at 9 pm last night.

The areas included Nilai and Seremban in Negri Sembilan with air pollutant index (API) readings of 134 and 130 respectively, Port Klang (128) and Shah Alam (120) in Selangor, Bukit Rambai in Malacca (119) and Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur(117).

The API readings for Putrajaya and Bandaraya Malacca were 117, Petaling Jaya and Banting in Selangor (108), Pasir Gudang Johor (107) and Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan (106).

Moderate API was recorded in 28 areas, including Cheras (96), Larkin Lama (95) and Kota Tinggi (89) in Johor, Kuala Selangor (83), Muar in Johor (83), and Seberang Jaya 2, Perai in Penang (81).

Meanwhile, 13 areas recorded good air quality, including Sarikei in Sarawak (50); Sandakan in Sabah (47); Sibu in Sarawak and Sekolah Menengah Tanjung Chat, Kota Baharu in Kelantan (45); Miri in Sarawak (43); and Keningau in Sabah (39).  An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous.
