KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — The rally planned for tomorrow at Petaling Street has been cancelled.

The Malaysian Insider reported that Armed Forces Veterans Association president Mohd Ali Baharom, also known as Ali Tinju, who admitted to being the organiser, had called off the protest in order to give ‘space’ for the authorities to solve the ‘Petaling Street issue’ and react to demands for more Malay traders to be allowed to conduct business there.

"We can't guarantee there won't be a rally tomorrow. If there is, it's not from us," The Malaysian Insider quoted him as saying.

Earlier, after Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos denied all links to tomorrow’s rumoured protest, Petaling Street traders have decided not to shutter their businesses for the day.

Kuala Lumpur Hawkers and Petty Traders Association Datuk Ang Say Tee told Malay Mail Online that shoppers have nothing to be afraid of, especially with the police beefing up security in the area.

“Tomorrow, all shops will be opened. The police have called Jamal to record his statement and he won’t do anything tomorrow,” he said when contacted.
