PUTRAJAYA, Sept 23 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged Muslims to embrace the spirit of forgiveness among the ummah to foster unity in making Aidiladha a meaningful celebration of sacrifice.

He said Muslims should forgive others for their ignorance so that solidarity and peace remain in their hearts.

“We should delve into the meaning of sacrifice according to the faith which is not just about sacrifice of money or material possession but far greater than that involving emotional and spiritual awakening,” he said in a message in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha tomorrow.

Ahmad Zahid who is also Home Minister said Muslims in Malaysia were saddened by the tragic incident at the Grand Mosque, which killed hundreds of Muslims including seven Malaysian pilgrims.

“We in Malaysia pray for the safety of Malaysian pilgrims and may they be bestowed with strength and ease in performing the pilgrimage,” he said.

“We hope the Malaysian pilgrims in Mecca will pray for the prosperity, security and stability of our country as well as protection against all forms of disaster,” he said.

In his message, Ahmad Zahid hoped that Muslims embrace the spirit of sacrifice with a deep sense of awareness and consciousness. — Bernama
