PETALING JAYA, Sept 19 — Police believe a coffee shop kitchen in USJ 1, Subang Jaya, was where deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais was held captive, bludgeoned and then entombed in a cement-filled oil drum.
They were led by one of the seven suspects detained so far to the place about 500m from where Morais's body was found in a storm drain.
They seized several items from the premises adjoining a car paint shop on Jalan USJ 1/6C.
As they combed the place for further clues to the gruesome killing of the respected legal figure, their counterparts were scouring the Sungai Kuala Selangor, 70km to the north, for weapons that may have been used in the brutal killing.
Mechanic Tan Ban Heng, 53, who has been running a garage nearby for 11 years, said he saw policemen being led by someone in orange lock-up uniform to the site.
“The person who was handcuffed seemed to be showing the police a specific location as they escorted him around the premises,” he said.
“This area is quiet and deserted at night, which means not many people would be around to witness anything unusual,” he added.
City police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said police were investigating the connection between the suspects and the coffeeshop.
Malay Mail visited the alleged scene of the crime which appeared to have been unused with chairs and tables utside still in plastic wrapping.
The surrounding area held car workshops and small industries with the odd eatery and corporate office.
Another mechanic, who only wished to be identified as Nazrin, said members of the police forensic unit were at the scene about noon yesterday, spending an hour there.
“I saw what seemed like cement being brought out by the team. We heard about the case when it came out in the newspapers but did not expect investigators to show up on our backdoor,” he said.
A mechanic at a the car paint shop, who only wanted to be known as Norman, said he had seen policemen there over the past two days.
“My boss had rented out the lot behind our shop to someone and said it was going to be a coffee shop. Suddenly, policemen came to our area and checked the premises with someone who appeared to be a suspect as he was handcuffed,” he said.
