KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Police detained two men to facilitate in the investigation into the commotion which broke out at Petaling Street after certain participants of ‘Red Shirt’ rally tried to breach the police barricade around the area today.

City Police chief Datuk Tajudin Md Isa the duo were detained under Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“During the rally, a group of men tried to breach the police barricade to enter the Petaling Street area. While trying to stop the group, a policeman sustained a broken finger, while another sustained head injuries, believed to have been knocked with hard object.

“The situation prompted the police to fire water cannon once to reduce tension,” he told Bernama here. 

Tajudin said the rally at Padang Merbok ended peacefully at 6.30 pm, while the one at Petaling Street, at 7pm.

He said today’s rally had violated the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and the police would definitely take action. — Bernama
