PUTRAJAYA, Sept 15 — The National Security Council (MKN) will study the proposals to identify the best suitable system to be used in the construction of Malaysia-Thailand border wall to enhance security between the two countries, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
He said 15 proposals had been received for the purpose, focusing mostly on two systems, namely the construction of physical wall and the use of monitoring technology through drones, satellites and high-definition closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
“The matter has not been finalised by the government as it involves various ministries, departments and agencies.
“We will leave it to the MKN to decide on the system to be adopted to prevent trafficking in persons, as long as smuggling of drugs and weapons, between Malaysia and Thailand,” he told reporters after meeting Asean Ride participants here today.
Yesterday, Armed Forces Chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin said Malaysia and Thailand had agreed to build a common border wall or barrier in which the construction and maintenance costs would be funded jointly.
Zulkifeli said the wall would be built along the border line between the two countries and that the construction would begin next year. — Bernama
