KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — PAS splinter Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) said today it will meet with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) soon to get a clearer picture over its status, after the agency said this morning that the party was prohibited from carrying out any programmes using its name.

In a statement, PAN secretary-general Anuar Tahir said he was surprised when he was contacted for the party’s response on the matter, noting that he was only informed of the RoS’s decision through the media.

“For the record, we have sent our application for our name change (from the Malaysian Worker’s Party to PAN), logo, flag and several other amendments to the party’s structure to the RoS.

“I am confident that RoS... will carry out its duties professionally. Therefore, I will meet the RoS as soon as possible to discuss and explain the matter in better detail to clear up any misconceptions,” he said.

In a statement earlier today, RoS said PAN cannot carry out any activities under the party’s name until the name change has been approved.

RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah was quoted by Bernama as saying that the prohibition is provided for under Section 11 of the Societies Act 1966.

He added that application for the name change has yet to be approved.
