PETALING JAYA, Sept 10 — FA of Malaysia has sent videos of Tuesday’s abandoned World Cup/Asian Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia at Shah Alam to FIFA.
FIFA World Cup & Olympic qualifiers & international matches head Gordon Savic sent an email to FAM general secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin which read: “In order to be able to assess properly the incidents caused by the fans, we really need the FAM to urgently send the DVD of the match by courier to us.”
Malaysia was fined US$35,000 (RM150,710) and given a suspended one-match closed door ban for international matches for crowd trouble during the Asean Football Federation Cup semifinal first leg against Vietnam at the Shah Alam Stadium in December.
FAM was also fined US$10,000 (RM43,100) after Ultras Malaya interrupted the Malaysia-Philippines friendly at the Selayang Stadium in March last year.
In February last year, the national body announced CCTV cameras would be installed in all stadiums to identify those who cause trouble.
A source in FAM said: “Nothing has moved. The statement was made without even thinking of the mechanics.”
FAM launched a “Love Football, Stop Hooliganism” campaign in February last year but since then, three major incidents have taken place at international matches and many more on the local scene.
The FAM executive committee is expected to meet tomorrow to discuss Malaysian football’s plight. President Tengku Abdullah Shah, who announced his resignation “in stages” on Monday, could discuss a handover to deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah.
