KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — Two PKR state assemblymen will be charged this Tuesday along with several others under Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012 for participating in the recent #KitaLawan rally.
According to a report by The Malaysian Insider, Teja assemblyman Chang Lih Kang and Semambu assemblyman Lee Chean Chung will be charged for their involvement in the rally.
“Charging us for attending a protest is against the spirit of the Federal Constitution, and is an attempt to silence dissent.
“I am not perturbed and will continue to fight this corrupt regime,” The Malaysian Insider quoted Chang as saying.
They will join activists Adam Adli Abd Halim, Fariz Musa, Rozan Mat Azen, Mandeep Singh, Bersih 2.0 chair Maria Chin Abdullah, and PKR strategy director Sim Tze Tzin.
All of them will be charged under Section 4 (2) (C) of the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012 for participating and organising a street protest.
The #Kitalawan rally earlier this year was held on the same day of the wedding reception of Najib and Rosmah’s daughter Nooryana Najwa.
The demonstration saw hundreds march to Sogo in the city here, whom continued to march towards the Petronas Twin Towers and the adjacent Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), where the wedding reception was held.
#Kitalawan and was organised following the conviction of PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy charges.
