KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — It would be unwise for Umno to sack Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal as the party already has many issues to resolve, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said today.
He was commenting on rumours that those two and five others will be expelled from the party during an upcoming Umno supreme council meeting.
“Deep down in my heart, I don’t think it will happen. I have not been consulted,” Rahman told reporters here after a visit to the PPR Wangsa Sari flats here.
“Personally I don’t think it’s a wise thing to do, not at this time, we have enough on our plate at the moment.”
Muhyiddin is Umno deputy president, while Shafie is the party vice-president.
In the recent Cabinet reshuffle, both of them ― known to be vocal critics of the 1MDB controversy - lost their Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister posts respectively.
A viral message on messaging app WhatsApp had also listed Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as being one of the seven senior Umno members expected to get the boot.
Mukhriz was spotted at Muhyiddin's house after the latter was dropped from Cabinet.
But local daily The Star reported today that Mukhriz had declined comment on rumours and said he will wait until a decision is made.
