KOTA KINABALU, Sept 1 — There has been no reported damage following the latest tremors in Ranau, about 108km from here, today.
Ranau district officer, Faimin Kamin said the tremors of 3.0 magnitude and above on the Richter scale that occurred at 1.25pm, could be felt by residents in the district.
“The tremors did not last long, only two or three seconds,” he said when contacted by Bernama, here.
Faimin said a weak earthquake of 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale had hit Ranau this afternoon.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the quake was six degrees North and 116.6 degrees East, or 10km south-west of Ranau.
On June 5, this year, Ranau was hit by an earthquake of 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale, killing 18 people and causing serious damage to houses and other buildings in the district and surrounding areas. — Bernama
