Cops swoop in after posters promising ‘blood bath’ for Bersih 4 ralliers turn up in Penang
These posters were put up around Bukit Dumbar area this morning.

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 28 ― Penang police are hunting for the culprits behind a provocative poster promising a “blood bath” to anyone who attends the Bersih 4 rallies, after several copies turned up in the Bukit Dumbar area here.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Farid Alathrash Wahid said they received calls early this morning about the posters and upon checking, found several of these posters put up all around the area.

“The words in the poster are seditious and we are now investigating this case under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act,” he said.

The section is for any person who attempts any act which had a seditious tendency and many be fined not exceeding RM5,000 or a jail term of not more than three years or both upon conviction.

The police have not identified any suspects yet but Mior warned the culprits that they will find them and charge them for putting up the posters.

The posters depicted a man in red holding a bloodied parang in a motion to slash a kneeling man in the yellow Bersih t-shirt had the words “Cina Turun Bersih, Sedia bermandi darah” (Chinese who go to Bersih, be prepared for a blood bath).

Mior said the police have asked the Penang Island Municipal Council (MBPP) officers to check for more of these posters all around the island and to remove them.

The overnight Bersih 4 rally is scheduled this weekend at the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Kuching in Sarawak, and other cities around the world.

It aims to press for institutional reforms and for Najib’s resignation over his handling of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad controversy.
