SEPANG, Aug 26 — Two Malaysian associations collected RM20,000 to help cover the medical treatment for a senior citizen from Xi’an, China who was involved in an express bus accident in Kelantan earlier this month.
Chen Guan Jun, 67, who was seriously injured with 13 broken bones on her leg, hand and face received the contribution from Persatuan Orang Kota Bahru (OKB) and Gabungan Pertubuhan Tiong Hwa Kelantan.
The victim’s son, Bai Jian Bin, 44, said they were grateful for the concern shown by the two associations and all Malaysians involved in the donation drive to assist finance the medical treatment for his mother.
“We were very fortunate to receive the assistance,” he told reporters when met at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) here before returning to China.
OKB president, Datuk Sheikh Ahmad Dusuki S. Mohamad said the assistance was extended as a gesture of the people’s concern for the victim apart from fostering ties between the people of the two countries.
“We sympathised with the victim as she is a senior citizen, what more when we found out she is also a fellow Muslim,” he said.
Chen and nine family members and relatives who were visiting Malaysia for the first time, were on their way to Pulau Redang when the bus accident occurred at Kuala Krai, Kelantan on August 7.
There were no loss of lives reported in the incident. — Bernama
