KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Students camping outside Parliament here in their #OccupyParliament protest to push for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s resignation have refused to budge, despite Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers warning them to leave this morning.
According to student activist Ammar Atan, a group of DBKL officers approached the 20-odd students from public universities, who were camping there since yesterday afternoon, at about 10am today and told them to remove their belongings from the pedestrian pathway and to vacate the premises.
“We hung up banners and had our mats spread on the walkway, they asked us to remove all that. Said it was public property. They also asked us to leave but we insisted that we will stay here till our demand is met,” Ammar, who is also the University of Malaya Student Council (PMUM) student leader, told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

Ammar said the authorities, who left after the students removed the banners temporarily, had also tried to identify the leader of the #OccupyParliament movement and said they may return to check on them again.
“They tried to ask all of us who is the leader but we all unitedly (sic) claimed that we are just participants in the movement and there is no leader.
“The officer warned us that they might come back and check on us again. But we have made it a point to put up the banners and all back,” Ammar said.
The students began their protest yesterday afternoon, braving the heavy rain which poured throughout the night.
They pledged to keep the sit-in protest going until Najib quits and the country’s federal lawmakers get together to discuss solutions for various issues plaguing the country.
