KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) said today it is ready to cooperate with the Swiss authorities’ criminal probe on its activities.
The state-owned firm added, however, that this would be subject to advice from the relevant authorities in Malaysia.
“We refer to media reports that Switzerland’s Office of the Attorney-General has opened an investigation relating to 1MDB.
“1MDB has not been contacted by any Swiss authorities but is ready to assist in any investigation if approached, subject to advice from the appropriate Malaysian authorities.
“We remain committed to fully cooperate with all lawful authorities that are currently investigating 1MDB,” the firm said in a brief statement.
On Friday, it was reported that Switzerland’s Office of the Attorney-General has kicked off a criminal investigation against two entities of 1MDB and an “unknown person”.
According to a statement by the office that was quoted by Reuters, the probe started on August 14 and involves “suspected corruption of public foreign officials, dishonest management of public interests and money laundering”.
The Reuters report also quoted the spokesman as saying that the probe follows two communications from the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROS).
1MDB, a brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is under a multi-agency probe here for alleged financial irregularities.
