KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — Florists, jewellers and divorce lawyers in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sabah may be rejoicing after information released following a hack of pro-infidelity dating site Ashley Madison showed a concentration of Malaysian users there.

US website Gizmodo posted yesterday a map by Malfideleco of Ashley Madison users around the world, broken down by gender, based on the data stolen by hackers that revealed users here as well as in George Town, Butterworth and Juru in Penang, and Beaufort in Sabah.

More than 85 per cent of Ashley Madison users in Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown, Juru, and Beaufort were male, while men made up about 61 per cent of users in Butterworth.

US website WIRED.com reported Tuesday that hackers have posted online stolen Ashley Madison customer information that included names, physical and email addresses, payment transaction details as well as descriptions of what members were seeking.

UK paper The Telegraph, which also posted the map, reported yesterday that hackers have posted another data dump on the Internet that appeared to target Noel Biderman, chief executive of Avid Life Media, Ashley Madison’s parent company, to prove that their earlier release of information purportedly related to 37 million clients worldwide was genuine.

It is unclear how there are Malaysian users of the Canada-based Ashley Madison, which touts itself as “the most famous website” for married people looking for partners to have affairs with, as there is no “Malaysia” section where users can register themselves under.

The website was initially due to begin operations in Singapore last year, before the republic’s authorities withdrew approval after concluding that Ashley Madison “promotes adultery and disregards family values".
