GEORGE TOWN, Aug 19 ― Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has discontinued his defamation suit against Bagan Umno division head Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin after the latter issued a full apology in court today.
Shaik Hussein read out his apology to Lim in chambers at the Penang High Court today and retracted his statement made against Lim back in 2012.
“I hereby, without conditions, retract my statement accusing the chief minister of lying and of receiving bribes from Kuala Lumpur International Dental Hospital,” Shaik said in his apology to Lim.
Lim later told reporters later that he sued because Shaik had slandered him by accusing him of corruption, which not only tarnished his reputation but also that of the state.
He said he decided to withdraw the case against Shaik after the latter read out the apology to him before the judge this morning.
“His apology shows that the state is a clean administration that does not accept donations,” he said.
