KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 — Muslims can now perform “umrah”, or a minor pilgrimage to Mecca with the president of Malay rights group Perkasa, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, for a starting price of RM5,590.

The trip, offered by travel agency Gemilang Travel and Tours, was advertised by Ibrahim himself on his official Facebook page yesterday.

The agency today confirmed the tour with Malay Mail Online, saying the pilgrimage will be held between November 27 and December 7 this year.

An “umrah” can be performed at any time of the year, and is not obligatory to all Muslims unlike the major pilgrimage of Hajj which is only performed during the month of Dhu al-lhijjah in the Islamic calendar.

Gemilang Travel and Tours is an Ampang-based agency that regularly holds “umrah” tours with popular religious figures.

“Umrah” tour packages with preachers Prof Dr Muhd Najib Abd Kadir and Zul Ramli M. Razali cost RM9,799 and RM7,140 respectively.
