GEORGE TOWN, Aug 12 ― Police arrested a 41-year old man, believed to be a member of a drug trafficking syndicate in Penang and found 86kg of cannabis worth RM258,000 in his car at an apartment area in Relau, here.

Penang Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Guan Beng Kang said police raided the suspect's house on Monday following his arrest in Alor Star, Kedah the previous day.

“The Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) found 86 kg of cannabis that were placed in a special compartment in his Honda Civic car boot, which was parked at the apartment's parking lot,” he told a press conference here, today.

He said that the unemployed man was believed to be a member of a drug trafficking syndicate which was active in Penang and allegedly involved in drugs trafficking activities since six months ago.

Gan said the suspect had four drug-related criminal records and police believed the seized cannabis was to be distributed for markets in the neighbouring states.

“We believe that we have managed to cripple one of the biggest drugs trafficking syndicates in the state and we are still hunting for several members of the syndicate,” said Gan. ― Bernama
