PUTRAJAYA, Aug 10 — The order issued last week to transfer two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) directors to new posts in the Prime Minister’s Department have been rescinded, a source with direct knowledge of the matter confirmed today.

According to the source, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa will likely issue a statement on the matter later today.

“Yes, but we are not allowed to said (sic) anything. I think KSN will make the statement,” the source told Malay Mail Online, referring to Ali.

Amid the uproar over an apparent police crackdown on MACC officers investigating 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), it was confirmed last week that the agency’s special operations division director Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin and strategic communications director Datuk Rohaizad Yaakob would be transferred out to the PMD.

They were to report in for duty at the department this morning.

Later, when approached by reporters outside the MACC headquarters, Bahri refused to comment on his reinstatement and instead asked the question be directed to his superior, MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull who returned from overseas yesterday.

“Ask my boss, he has returned already,” he told reporters when leaving the office around 1.30pm.

Shukri has been in charge of the agency in the absence of commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed who is said to be plagued by illness.

The MACC number two returned to the country yesterday from a 10-day work visit to the United States, which went on during the crackdown here on the anti-graft agency,

In his absence, MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Mustafar Ali has been handling all queries on the crackdown.

Mustafar released a statement on behalf of MACC earlier today, claiming the reinstatement of the two officers was a “good and very reasonable” move.
