KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 ― The United States (US) hopes that the discovery of aircraft debris on Reunion Island will help bring a conclusion to the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 tragedy.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said he also hoped that it would help narrow down the search area for the rest of the plane, which went missing under mysterious circumstances.

Flight MH370 with 239 people aboard disappeared from radar while flying to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014.

“Perhaps even more reliable information tracked from the sea currents may narrow the search area,” he told the media on the sidelines of Asean-related talks here today.

Kerry led the US delegation at the 22nd Asean Regional Forum, Asean-US Ministerial Meeting and the 5th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers Meeting, all organised in conjunction with the 48th Asean Foreign Ministers Meeting.

Kerry also expressed condolences to the next-of-kin of those aboard MH370.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had earlier today announced that the piece of aircraft wreckage washed up on the island off Madagascar was indeed from MH370.

Kerry commended French authorities and other international experts for their work in analysing the debris, as well as the involvement of other parties in the ongoing search for the MH370 wreckage. ― Bernama
