GEORGE TOWN, Aug 3 — A reappointed PAS member of the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has expressed his intention to join the newly formed Gerakan Harapan Baharu (GHB) or New Hope Movement.
Mhd Nasir Yahya said he would still be in PAS until his membership was automatically cancelled after he joins GHB officially. “Technically, I am still a PAS member. My name is still on the membership register. GHB is in the process of being registered (as a political party) and, most probably, I will join it.
“I have given it much consideration and I feel my objectives are similar to the GHB struggle,” he said at the acknowledgement of appointment of MBPP members here.
Besides Mhd Nasir, Dahalan Fazli, also of PAS, was reappointed as a member of the Seberang Perai Municipal Council effective Aug 1.
Mhd Nasir and Dahalan had resigned as council members after the PAS general assembly in June accepted a Dewan Ulama resolution to sever ties with the DAP, one of PAS’ two partners in the opposition Pakatan Rakyat pact.
Asked whether he had expressed his intention to join GHB to the Penang PAS leadership, Mhd Nasir said: “(They were) not informed. They can read through the papers, media and Facebook. They can read the message there”. — Bernama
