KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 ― The PKR-linked Kita Lawan group will organise a series of roadshows nationwide to press Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down as prime minister over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

Kita Lawan secretariat member Akmal Nasir said the campaign will run from August 2 till August 22, ahead of the Bersih overnight rally planned for the end of the month.

“Kita Lawan secretariat with the help of other activists will start the Kita Lawan Najib campaign with a series of lectures at the stage,” Akmal said, adding that they will announce other activities later on.

“We welcome everyone to the stage and politicians from all sides to voice out, even Tan Sri Muhyiddin... they just have to inform us first.”

The campaign will be at Sabah, Terengganu, Perak and Johor, among others.

Kita Lawan is a movement comprising members from political parties, civil societies, non-governmental organisations and university students that was formed to demand Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s release from prison over his sodomy conviction in February.

Yesterday, electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 announced an overnight rally from August 29 to August 30 to demand Najib step down as PM.

The PM was last month linked to the ongoing 1MDB scandal when US-based Wall Street Journal reported that US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) from the firm was channelled into his personal accounts.

1MDB is currently under investigation by at least six federal agencies and entities.
