Fire breaks out at Bukit Aman, but cops say none hurt

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — A fire broke out at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here this evening but has been put out, a police spokesman confirmed.

According to ACP Datin Asmawati Ahmad, the fire occurred at the corridor of level 10 of Bukit Aman’s Menara 2, where the criminal investigation department is located.

The smoke from the fire went down to level 9, where the narcotics department is located.

Asmawati confirmed that no one was hurt as a result of the fire, also saying that the Fire and Rescue Department had put out the fire.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the incident this evening on Twitter, saying that the fire was put out with no casualties occurring.

He also said that the cause of the fire is under investigation, further clarifying that the fire only affected unimportant documents in the corridor of Level 10.

“Hanya dokumen tidak penting di koridor Ting 10 @PDRMsia yg terbakar. Bhg pej selamat. Ting 10 adalah pej tadbir JSJ. Hentikan khabar angin,” he wrote on Twitter, referring to the Criminal Investigation Department by its Malay initials.

[Translation: Only unimportant documents in the corridor of Level 10 @PDRMsia was burnt. The office areas are safe. Level 10 is the administration office of the JSJ. Stop spreading rumours.]
