KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — Ummi Hafilda, the sister of Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali, claimed today that the axing of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from the federal Cabinet is a sign of the downfall of the country’s ruling party.
The Umno Gombak member claimed that the party will begin to crumble due to the decision by its President and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to cull those who had questioned him openly about the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fiasco.
“What happened today shows that there’s no transparency and freedom or respect toward the current leadership or Umno,” she said when met at Muhyiddin’s house in Bukit Damansara.
“The sacking of Tan Sri Muhyiddin today is the sign that the current leadership will fall. His sacking shows that Umno will terkubur after 69 years,” she added, using the Malay word meaning “(be) buried”.
Ummi Hafilda was among the deluge of visitors who came to Muhyiddin’s house in a show of support after his removal as deputy prime minister and education minister in a cabinet reshuffle announced by Najib earlier today.
She claimed that Najib’s decision was unbecoming, as Muhyiddin was just asking the same questions asked by millions of Malaysians.
“How can a deputy prime minister be sacked for just questioning, what about the people then? Can we not question the leadership?
“It was not an attack or something rude by Muhyiddin on the PM. He was just asking for an explanation for something that the people want to know about,” Ummi Hafilda said.
Ummi Hafilda also declared that she will quit Umno because of the Cabinet reshuffle, claiming that she no longer had any faith in the party.
“I will be quitting Umno today. I am ashamed to call myself an Umno member because the truth is being deceived by such dirty tactics,” Ummi said.
