PETALING JAYA, July 24 — The Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix has not only left city folk in the dark but transportation operators as well.
Prasarana Communications and Media Affairs senior manager Azhar Ghazali said organisers had not approached Prasarana for an extension of train services beyond the scheduled time to accommodate those travelling to and from the three-day event.
“The organisers for a Bon Jovi concert on September 19, have already asked the train time schedule to be extended,” he said.
“There will be a large number of spectators who will depend on public transport. The organisers can still approach us if they would like to make specific requests,” Azhar said.
Prasarana is the asset owner and operator of the two LRT networks, KL Monorail and bus services of RapidKL, RapidPenang and RapidKuantan.
He said the company could not change bus routes without the approval of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
“It is up to SPAD to advise us on any route changes as it follows the instructions of traffic police before bus route diversions are implemented,” Azhar said.
He said Prasarana has not been informed of road closures or alternate routes for its bus services.
“There should not be any problems involving our train services as schedules can be changed.
“We have the ability to change train frequencies or add on more carriages if we need to,” he said.
“We can adapt the weekday peak-hour schedule to the weekend also.”
A SPAD spokesman told Malay Mail details on bus routes would be released on Monday.
“The team informed me meetings on this matter have just wrapped up,” she said.
Detailed maps and affected routes have been discussed and agreed to by all bus operators and City Hall.”
She added the GO-KL Green Line plying between KLCC and Bukit Bintang would see a major change as 90 per cent of the routes required realignment.
