GEORGE TOWN, July 22 — Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chief Hng Chee Wey today lodged a police report against an individual who he claimed sent him a threat on a Facebook ‘Like’ message last Sunday.  

In the report he urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate and take appropriate action against the individual who had used the name ‘Jeff Koid’ on Facebook. 

Hng, who is also Penang Gerakan Youth chief, claimed that the message was in response to his (Hng’s) uploading onto Facebook the status of a piece of land in Air Itam which was bought by 1Malaysia Development Berhad.  

“This type of politics to me is very cheap. You cannot stop me by threatening me. If you want to stop my political career, please use the democratic way through elections. 

“It is our role to monitor the state government, to monitor the government for implementing the policy. 

“So, I hope that the party concerned, no matter where you are from, please stop this kind of cheap skill at politicking. It won’t benefit any party.

Today you can kill me, you can stop me but tomorrow there are many of our members who will monitor the government too,” he told reporters after making the report at the Datuk Keramat police station. 

Meanwhile, Penang Umno Youth chief Rafizal Abd Rahim, who was also present, said the culture of sending threats on the social media should be checked by the MCMC and the Home Ministry. 

He said the ‘finger-tip facility’ could be detrimental if there was no monitoring and control by the authorities concerned.  “The threat against Chee Wey is a very serious matter.

The police should act quickly. Prompt action will show justice for Chee Wey,” he said. ­— Bernama
