KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 — The parents of a nine-year-old girl allegedly left bruised after she was caned at school are demanding that the Education Ministry ban the teacher involved from the profession.

The girl's father, Saw Say Wei, 38, claimed that his daughter was left with bruises on her buttocks and palms after she was caned ostensibly for drinking water in class without asking for permission, according to a report by The Star Online.

Saw said the teacher admitted to caning his daughter three times on her buttocks and twice on her palm over the alleged offence, after he and his wife confronted the headmaster of the school in Johor.

"I was furious at the excuse given, so I lodged a complaint at the police station and the district's Education Department,” he was quoted as saying.

Saw claimed that the teacher has since offered to resign, but expressed concern that the person may end up in another school.

"I am afraid that the Ministry will just transfer him to another school and another child might become a victim of his violence," Saw said.
