After invite to PM’s open house, Dr Wan Azizah says PKR will boycott BN Hari Raya events

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 ― PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today that her party will not attend any Barisan Nasional (BN) Hari Raya event after she was invited to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s open house.

Dr Wan Azizah said her party regrets that till today, her husband and PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, remains in prison after he was convicted of sodomy.

“Meanwhile the economic uncertainty and crisis of governance is daily worsening, whilst the rightful democratic leader elected by the popular votes of the people languishes in prison,” Dr Wan Azizah said in a statement.

“In protest against the conviction and continued imprisonment of Anwar Ibrahim, Keadilan will boycott all Hari Raya events organised by the Barisan Nasional federal and state levels,” the opposition leader added.

Dr Wan Azizah and jailed Anwar were invited to Najib’s open house in Putrajaya tomorrow.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) clarified later that they had made a “protocol mistake” in extending the invite to Anwar and stressed that it was meant for Dr Wan Azizah.

Anwar, 65, was convicted of sodomy and sentenced to five years’ jail by the Federal Court last February.
