KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Nothing less than a royal commission of inquiry will do if there is to be a transparent outcome into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), a new splinter group with roots from Islamist party PAS said today.

Chairman of the newly launched Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), Mohamad Sabu, popularly known as Mat Sabu, claimed the current investigation on the state investor’s alleged financial improprieties by a special task force comprising four federal agencies led by four ‘Tan Sris” was a cover-up and therefore cannot be trusted.

“I don’t trust the four Tan Sris on this… there should be no less of a RCI to investigate this matter,” the former PAS deputy president said.

The heads of the four agencies involved are: Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed.

Mat Sabu added that his new group is targeting to take over the federal government to tackle these issues.

“I am utterly disappointed with BN’s attitude over this… this is why we will move to take over the administration,” he said.

GHB  is made up of PAS’ ousted progressives in a bid to muscle their way back to the forefront of Malaysian politics.

The group, officially launched  today at the Vistana Hotel here, includes Parit Buntar MP Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, former Kuala Selangor MP Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and several others who were bumped off top positions in PAS during its annual congress last month.

Among the issues the movement said it will highlight concern wrongdoings in the government administration, corruption as well as issues of morality.
