KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — The special task force set up by Putrajaya to investigate the corruption claims surrounding 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) should be proof enough that the government, just like the public, is serious in seeking the truth, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today.

The Transport Minister made the assertion when asked if he felt that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should publicly declare his assets after US-based business paper The Wall Street Journal claimed some RM2.6 billion of 1MDB money had been deposited into his personal accounts.

Liow said the public should remain calm and allow the task force do its job, while calling on the media to refrain from playing judge and jury as the case is now undergoing investigation by the authorities.

“The public should remain calm. To investigate all this this requires a system and to have this task force is something unprecedented.

“The system is there, the public must have confidence that the government is doing its level best to give good governance,” Liow said when asked if he believed that Najib should heed calls to publicly declare his assets to clear his name.

Liow also pointed out that all ministers have already declared their assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
