KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Jailed PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who suffers from health problems has been warded at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, PKR said today.

The opposition party’s communications director Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar was taken to the government hospital earlier this evening and is expected to stay there a few days while undergoing treatment.

“He will be given intensive physiotherapy treatment for his shoulder pain, his high blood pressure will be monitored and a CT Scan will be conducted on his kidney,” Fahmi said in a statement.

Anwar is currently being held in an isolated ward.

Fahmi said Anwar’s wife and party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was allowed to visit her sick husband today.

The 67-year-old former opposition leader is known to have several health issues.

His condition was reported to have deteriorated last week after five months in jail following his conviction on a sodomy charge on February 10.

Anwar is said to have irregular blood pressure, a 4cm growth on his kidney, gastritis as well as a shoulder muscle tear and chronic arthritis, both of which require intensive physiotherapy.

Anwar was sentenced to five years in prison by the Federal Court.

His family as well as PKR have been lobbying for his freedom claiming the charges were politically-motivated.
