KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 ― Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali should make way for those more “capable” of carrying out his responsibilities as he has failed to prove his worth despite being in office for over nine months, an aide to the state leader’s deposed predecessor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said today.

In echoing her employer's call for Azmin to step down, Faekah Husin listed down the problems that she claimed Selangor residents are facing under Azmin's administration, including, among others, uncollected rubbish, clogged drains and being the state with the highest number of dengue cases.

“YAB Azmin Ali has wasted the opportunity given to prove his capability for nine months. Therefore there is no fairer and more beneficial way for the Selangor people, except for him to give way to those who are more capable,” the special officer to former MB Khalid wrote in a scathing statement today.

Faekah demanded for proof from Azmin's backers in PKR that Selangor had become more prosperous and developed during the latter’s nine-month rule, questioning if the public were truly feeling the effects of the “prosperity”.

Among other things, she also questioned Azmin's tabling of a deficit budget without valid justification for the first time this year, when a balanced budget had been tabled for six years in a row since 2009 during Khalid's rule.

Faekah also cited Azmin's alleged failure to resolve water supply issues in Selangor that resulted in a recent protest, accusing him of blaming Khalid for the unfinalised water industry restructuring seen as crucial to ensure clean water supply.

“Is it considered 'great' when the Dato' Mentri Besar simply places the burden of failing to finalise the restructuring of the water industry on the shoulders on the former Mentri Besar, when he only has to implement the terms and conditions in the Master Agreement that has been inked as a result of complex and holistic negotiations for five years in over 60 meetings and discussions between the State Government and the Federal Government,” she said, pointing out that Khalid had then saved Selangor at least RM20 million by rejecting the services of international investment banks for the deal.

Yesterday, Khalid accused Azmin of deliberately stalling the water industry restructuring process, telling the latter to step down to enable a qualified and capable replacement to carry out his job.

On June 18, Azmin said he was hopeful that the state and federal governments would be able to come to a final agreement on Selangor’s long-delayed water industry restructuring plan within seven days.

Recently, Khalid told Malay Mail Online that he would only consider making a comeback if he wins a vote of confidence in the state assembly with a simple majority, but expressed his willingness to take up the Selangor Mentri Besar post again.

“Yes I am willing (to return) to ensure that Selangor is administered with transparency, accountability, competency and is free from corruption,” the Port Klang assemblyman had said.
