KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Student Lua Norman who was caught on video ramming his car into the back of a police patrol car has pleaded not guilty to a drink driving charge.

The Star Online reported today that the 21-year-old may consider a plea bargain, citing the youth’s lawyer Mohd Khairani Samsi.

If convicted, Lua could be jailed up to 10 years and fined RM10,000 under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

According to the report, Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan granted Lua RM4,000 bail in one surety, and temporarily suspended his driving license.

A dashcam video released this week showed a dark-coloured hatchback car accelerating through an underpass on the left lane before slamming into the rear of a squad car and pushing it forward into a concrete road divider on the right.

The hatchback is then seen speeding off, leaving two officers who exit their damaged vehicle to redirect traffic.

According to The Star Online, the alleged incident took place on Jalan Pudu in the city on June 22 at about 8.55am.

Two policemen, Nor Alhayari Buyong, 58, and Zainal Abu Bee Din, 50, were reported injured in the crash.
