KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — The state chapter of DAP will meet Selangor Mentri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali to discuss how to continue governing the state now that the Pakatan Rakyat pact was no longer functional, Tony Pua said today.

Pua, who is Selangor DAP chairman, said that his party hoped to avoid a state election and was open to discussing various alternatives to keep the state government stable.

“We plan to meet with Mentri Besar Azmin Ali as soon as possible to discuss the options that exists to solve this problem so that the government can can continue its responsibility to the people.

“We do not want a snap election, that’s the last thing we want, but we want to resolve this in a manner that is consistent with the position that has been taken by DAP as well as by PKR yesterday,” Pua said during a press conference at Parliament today.

Pua acknowledged the dissolution of the Selangor government as a possibility but insisted that DAP will “exhaust all other options” first.

This comes after PKR announced yesterday that the PR pact was no longer functioning after PAS officially severed ties with DAP during its recent muktamar.

The two parties have been openly hostile over PAS’s ambition to enforce hudud in Kelantan.

The development drove DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to declare PR dead and awaiting “funeral rites”.

The coalition’s demise has lead to speculation that Selangor was headed for a snap election should Azmin not hold the support of the majority.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said today, however, that PKR, DAP and PAS has agreed to oversee Selangor as a coalition government, adding that Azmin still held the majority support.
