Sabah quake: Najib flies in for visit

KOTA KINABALU, June 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak flew in to Sabah today to visit Ranau and Kundasang which are recovering from an earthquake that occurred last Friday.

Najib, who arrived in a special aircraft, was welcomed at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport by, among others, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman; Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

The prime minister then took a helicopter ride to Ranau.

He is expected to visit the Ranau Police headquarters and then attend a briefing at a Liwagu restaurant.

Najib is also expected to hand over aid to several victims and relatives of those who were killed in the 5.9-magnitude earthquake. Sixteen people were killed in the earthquake and two are missing.

The prime minister is scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur at about 4pm today. — Bernama
