KUALA SELANGOR, June 6 — PAS overruled repeated demands by party delegates seeking to challenge a contentious motion to sever ties with DAP today, insisting its central working committee has already agreed to approve this without debate.

Several delegates again took to the microphone right before the closing speeches by its committee in the 61^st PAS muktamar, or annual congress, to demand for the advisory Syura Council to consider the decision first.

“Without a debate, people will have a misconception that the president and the spiritual adviser have veto powers,” said a delegate from Marang, referring to Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Dr Haron Din.

“We want this to be discussed... Don’t let the ulama be blamed for this later.”

Permanent chairman Hussin Ismail then used his authority to overrule any discussion, before another delegate from Kudat joined in.

“This should be the decision of the muktamar, muktamar has the highest decision,” said the Kudat delegate from the crowd.

“We ask for the Syura council to do their research with their outstanding knowledge ... If need be let’s have a special muktamar. Don’t just decide like that.”

Earlier today, several PAS delegates tore into the party’s central working committee today for approving the motion to sever ties with DAP without debate.

PAS today confirmed its decision to sever ties with DAP while still remaining in Pakatan Rakyat with PKR, after its motion to do so was approved without debate.

In PAS, the Syura Council is an advisory body made of the clergy class, but the muktamar has the highest decision-making authority.
