KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has said he does not feel alone as he has the support of Sarawak.
Speaking in Sarawak yesterday, Najib expressed confidence that the east Malaysian state’s leaders would stick with him even when he is relegated to riding a bus politically.
“Sometimes, when things become patchy, you get left behind and you feel alone. But I know I am not alone with the support of Sarawak’s leaders.
“Someone told me recently that everyone wants to be with you when you are travelling on a limousine. However, not many want to be with you when you are riding a bus. With that said, I know leaders in Sarawak will be with me on that bus,” he was quoted saying by local daily New Straits Times (NST) at a dinner in the Borneo state last night to celebrate Gawai.
Earlier at the same event, Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem told Najib that he was not alone and will always have the state’s support, despite it being easier to have support when one is up.
“Look around...you are not alone,” Adenan said amid a reported crowd of over 3,000 at the dinner.
“I’m saying this because it is the right thing to do,” he said, adding that the state was grateful for Najib’s contributions such as the Pan-Borneo Highway and that he is the “right man” for the job.
Adenan also praised Najib as being a prime minister for attending to Sarawak’s needs.
“None of the former prime minister have done what he has for us. He is always concerned about what Sarawak needs, including all the small things.
“Even the gentleman who was the prime minister for 23 years failed to do this. You know who I mean,” he was quoted saying, with NST saying that he was alluding to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
In recent months, Dr Mahathir has been one of Najib’s harshest critic over several issues including the 1Malaysia Development Berhad and cash hand-out policies to the low-income group.
