MARANG, June 2 — The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department has deployed a team from its Air Unit to assist in shifting remains believed to be those of human trafficking victims at Bukit Wang Burma near the Thailand border.

Its deputy director general Datuk Soiman Jahid said the department had also provided a helicopter to transport out the remains.

“Since last week we have been directing the unit and helicopter to bring out the remains,” he told reporters after a programme at the Wakaf Tapai Fire and Rescue Academy here today.

Soiman said the department’s officers and personnel were working with the Royal Malaysian Police to facilitate the operation to transport out the remains.

Police earlier discovered 28 camps and 139 graves containing remains believed to be those of Rohingya immigrants who had tried to enter Malaysia illegally through human trafficking syndicates. — Bernama
