WANG KELIAN (Perlis), May 26 — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar is perturbed about Malaysia gaining international notoriety as a human trafficking centre with the discovery of mass graves near the Malaysia-Thai border.

He said his priority was identifying the people responsible for the human trafficking and the mass graves.

Claiming that the international community was gunning for Malaysia over allegations of human trafficking, he said he was helpless to stop anyone from painting a bleak picture of the country.

Khalid said he was committed to being transparent.

He said police would work closely with their Thai counterparts to get to the bottom of the matter and no stone would be left unturned to bring human traffickers to book.

He was replying to  a question on whether the discovery of mass graves would affect Malaysia’s international  image.

“People are coming after us. We shouldn’t be worried about our international reputation,” he said.

“The fact is we are disclosing what we are finding to prove we are not hiding things.”

Asked whether there were rotten apples in the Malaysian police who could be involved with the syndicates, Khalid said police would investigate this possibility and would take stern action against anyone involved.
