GEORGE TOWN, May 25 — Police seized 470.1kg of ganja worth more than RM1.6 million, believed to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country, in a raid at Teluk Bahang, near here on May 23.

Penang deputy police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said a 22-year-old man was detained while loading the 477 ganja slabs in a lorry.

“Two other men managed to escape,” he told a press conference here today.

He said initial investigation found that the syndicate, which had been operating since last month, made Penang as drug transit point before being distributed to buyers.

In the raid, he said police also seized the Daihatsu lorry and a Yamaha motorcycle.

Thaiveegan said the suspect would be remanded until Friday. — Bernama
