PETALING JAYA, May 25 — There has been a twist in the case of a 30-year-old man who was hit by a car while trying to flee an attack by six men on Friday.

Police now believe the driver may have done it deliberately.

A police source said initial investigations revealed the driver who hit the man, identified as Subramaniam, was an accomplice of the six men who attacked him earlier with parangs.

“The driver did not stop after crashing into the victim and we are looking into the possibility that he was part of the gang that went looking for Subramaniam to settle an old feud,” the source said.

“We are looking for the driver and viewing closed-circuit television footage of the   incident which occurred in Taman Puchong Perdana.”

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Yahaya Ramli said three men aged between 29 and 33 were detained on Saturday to assist in the investigations.

“We received some leads on the suspects and managed to track them down and arrest them in Puchong Intan, Puchong Indah and Puchong Perdana,” he said.

Yahaya said police had obtained a four-day remand order on the suspects.

“We are looking for four other suspects including the driver,” he said.

In the incident, Subramaniam, who worked as a canopy dealer, went out to buy medicine for his sick fiancee. As Subramaniam parked his motorcycle in front of a supermarket in Taman Puchong Perdana, six men attacked him with parangs.

Subramaniam ran for about 20m before he was hit by the car and died of head injuries.

Yahaya said Subramaniam was released from prison recently after serving a five-year term for causing grievous hurt to a relative.

In an unrelated case, Sentul police yesterday arrested four men in connection with the robbery-cum-murder of a 39-year-old man in Jalan Ipoh on Friday.

Sentul police chief ACP R. Munusamy said the men aged between 18 and 32 were arrested at an apartment in Sentul.

“We seized a stolen Proton Wira with fake vehicle registration numbers from the suspects,” he said.

“We have obtained a five-day remand order on the suspects.”

The victim was sleeping in the corridor of the  low-cost flats in Jalan Ipoh when the suspects approached him and attacked him with plastic chairs, a piece of wood and a knife.

They also took the victim’s mobile phone and RM50.
