KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — In a rare occurrence, Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang has agreed with DAP’s objection against Penang’s exclusion from the 11th Malaysia Plan’s (11MP) “city competitiveness master plan”.

In a series of tweets, Tan said Putrajaya’s “exclusion defies logic” and felt that the move will have dire consequences.

“I’m extremely disappointed d (sic) exclusion of Penang as one of “growth catalyst cities” RMK11. Politics aside!” he tweeted today.

“I also want to finish off DAP in Penang... but please do it properly. Excluding Penang as growth catalyst cities under RMK11 going to backfire!” Tan’s next tweet read.

DAP lawmaker Zairil Khir Johari said earlier today it was a “travesty” that Putrajaya excluded Penang from the 11MP’s “city competitiveness master plan”, claiming that it is a cheap shot rooted in partisan politics, despite Penang fulfilling all the criteria to be listed.

The 11MP, which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak this morning, named Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu as the cities under the master plan.

These cities are to undergo an urban development strategy that will see investments boosted competitively.
