KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Putrajaya said it is planning to build 47,000 homes for poor households and 606,000 homes for low and middle-income earners under the 11th Malaysia Plan tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today.

The “one house per household” pledge was part of its second core thrust to improve public welfare, which will be done through a three-pronged strategy which includes targetting specific groups through existing housing programmes.

The strategy will also focus on better management of public housing, by creating an integrated database and land bank for affordable housing, especially in urban areas.

Also on the agenda is to build environmentally-friendly facilities and infrastructure, while encouraging a culture of maintenance, cleanliness and preventing vandalism.
