GEORGE TOWN, May 20 — Good news, anime fans! The Penang Anime Matsuri Summer Party 2015 will be at the Esplanade this weekend.
The two-day event will feature the latest animated movies, anime merchandise and thrilling Xcape games.
“This will be a showcase of young Japanese pop culture,” said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng when announcing the event at his office today.
During the day, between 9am and 7pm, there will be indoor events at the Dewan Sri Pinang such as the anime movie screening, exhibition, cosplay competition, workshops and Xcape games.
At night, there will be an exclusive Matsuri Experience Zone between 5pm and 11pm for the public to showcase their kimonos and celebrate the anime matsuri with traditional activities like gold fish scooping, ramune toss, yoyotsuri and marble pachinko.
The outdoor concert will feature popular anime song artistes and DJs from Japan such as Yanahinagi, Mika Kobayashi, Hachioji P and Yuyoyuppe.
In conjunction with the event, there will also be a photography competition where cosplayers and photographers can submit cosplay photographs to win a trip to Singapore’s AFASG 2015.
Access to the open-air events are free while entrance to the exhibition is RM10 per day and the concert is RM128.
