KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family and supporters will gather next Wednesday outside Sungai Buloh Prison in a show of solidarity with the PKR de facto leader jailed for sodomy, his daughter Nurul Nuha Anwar said today.
Nurul Nuha said the planned gathering outside it to mark Anwar’s 100th day behind bars.
“We call everyone to join us on that day in unison to protest against this unjust incarceration,” she told reporters here after attending a court hearing where Anwar was present.
The gathering will be held from 8pm to 11pm, she said.
Speaking on behalf of the “March 2 Freedom” campaign to seek for Anwar’s release from a sodomy conviction, Nurul Nuha also reiterated her family’s firm belief that the politician is “innocent”.
Since his imprisonment on February 10 for sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari, Anwar has been allowed briefly out of prison for several court appearances — including in his defamation suit against Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and his qazaf (false accusation of sodomy) suit against several others.
At such court hearings, Anwar’s wife and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her daughters would typically be present, along with other PKR leaders and supporters.
