KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 ― A woman allegedly threatened with rape by a police officer during her detention after the May Day rally here has finally given her statement on the incident, following an order by the Inspector-General of Police to expedite the probe.

But according to lawyer representing Maisara Amira, the officer handling the investigation at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters appeared unaware of the details of her allegation against another policeman from the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

“We were called in to give a statement yesterday after IGP tweeted his orders on Twitter to go to IPK KL instead of Dang Wangi to speed up the investigations,” Faizal Rahman told Malay Mail Online.

“Even the investigating officer who was taking the statement had no clue on the case and only took on the case on the particular morning before taking Maisara’s statement.”

On Tuesday night , IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar used Twitter to direct another of Maisara’s lawyers, G. Sivamalar, on how to proceed with the probe.

“Contact the Kuala Lumpur CID chief tomorrow morning and bring Maisara to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters so we can speed up investigations,” he tweeted from his @KBAB51 handle.

Maisara was among those arrested after the May Day rally against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Kuala Lumpur and was remanded for four days.

During her remand, she claimed that an unidentified police officer had threatened to rape her and record the act if she did not cooperate.

Today, Faizal added that he was also told by ASP Maziah Hamziah who was handling that case that all investigations would be done at the KL headquarters instead of Dang Wangi, after Maisara demanded an independent probe of her allegation.

“We have given them 48 hours to respond to the investigations, which the investigation officer had agreed. If they don’t get back to us within that timeframe, we would follow up with the necessary actions,” Faizal added.

The 21-year-old lodged a report last Friday over the alleged threat but on Saturday, Dang Wangi police chief ASP Zainol Samah claimed that she did not respond to calls from his officers investigating her claim.

She denied this in a press conference on Tuesday and her lawyers had then argued that it was not fair for the investigation to take place in the same place the incident happened.
