KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) refuted today rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle that were circulating via text message and social media.

“There is no change in the government’s line of leadership,” the office said on its official Twitter account @PMOMalaysia.

A chain message circulated earlier suggested that seven ministers and deputy ministers will be dropped in an impending Cabinet reshuffle, including Datuk Seri Hassan Malek and Datuk Seri Idris Jala.

The message also claimed that several ministers will have their current portfolios changed, with Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan taking on the post of communications and multimedia minister and current Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan taking the tourism and culture minister portfolio.

The list also said Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun will be made deputy ministers.

It also claimed that the Higher Education Ministry will again be split from the Education Ministry.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak declared yesterday that both he and his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have the full backing of Umno’s supreme council, despite calls for his resignation as prime minister.

Najib’s leadership has been come under heavy criticism of late over a number of issues, particularly its handling of allegations surrounding strategic fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
